LEAKSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

This is the fun part of being a 'collector'.

I have spent years rescuing a variety of items that others consider junk or trash.  Doing the research on these artifacts is so much fun.

It often provides fun and interesting history.

I just wanted to share something I found when digging around in some papers I acquired many years ago at an estate sale, then stashed away.

There were a little stack of postmarked envelopes, most postmarked from North Carolina.  There was one in particular that caught my attention.  I travel quite a bit on weekends for leisure and I'm fairly familiar with even the small towns in my state.  This little town represented on the postmark was totally unfamiliar to me.

So, off to google it.  What I found was a little town that ceased to be in the mid 1960s.

I found this cool website that has information about this little township as well as a visitor register where people are sharing memories of this town.  Here is a link to the site:

LEAKSVILLE website

Something else I found amusing was the 'return address'.  It simply reads that if the addressee doesn't claim within 5 days, return to sender.  Also, take note that there is nothing more than the name, city, and state.  Wow.  Can you imagine how small the area must have been?

I know this is a short post, but thought it was worth sharing.

March 5, 1946 Russian Spy Ring Newspaper article

With the internet behind their wings, I guess they are just upping their game these days...but as this article details, we have had issues with Russia for decades.

This article is from my personal collection of vintage newspapers & clippings. This was in the Tuesday, march 5, 1946 edition of the Detroit Free Press.  Front Page.

Nicolai Zabotin appears to be the ring leader.

I acquired a few pages of this newspaper.  I am sharing clippings to assist with genealogy & ancestry research.

It is very time consuming for me to scan all this information, so please be sure to comment if you see something that helps you.  It will be an encouragement for me to continue this project.

I put the names in the body of my blog...hoping that someone that might be doing a search of relative names will happen upon this post when the search engines crawl.

Marriage of Delores D. Goad and Eugene G. Roguszka ~ 1958 newspaper clipping

PLEASE.
Like, comment, or share if this is something you enjoy seeing.
This will help me determine if it is worth the time it takes to continue providing these clippings.  I have papers from the 1800s through about the 1970s.

Wedding was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Thomas T. Walker.  Mr. T.E. Halgren officiated at the double ring candlelight ceremony.   Bride was given in marriage by Stephen D. McCutcheon.  Mrs. Myrle Brill was matron on honor. Best man was Thomas T. Walker.

Beautiful description of the wedding.

1954 Army Navy Football Game Program

I have been fortunate enough to acquire a full magazine program from the 1954 (actually, I got 2 of them).

My hope is that it will end up in the hands of someone that is friends or relatives of one of these great men.

In order to hopefully reach as many friends or relatives as possible, I took the time to actually type every single players name...as well as every man whose photo appears in the magazines.

So, although it's a great piece of history for children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of some of these people...it has some great ads too.  I have those outlined as well. Pepsi, Coke, and those ICONIC cars~!  I documented every page!

Here are a few pictures from the program magazine and below the pictures are the names and details of all the advertisements.  Please share so we can reach as many as possible.
