1957 Paper Dolls ~ Betsey McCall and her cousin Linda

I remember paper dolls.

One of my girls actually played with them for a bit.

Even when I was young in the late '60s, I had a shoe box full of paper dolls and their clothes.  I know computers and designing programs have taken over these treasures.....but I still believe the hands-on is more fun.  It helps with fine motor skills as they have to cut the tabs and clothes just right.  It was always fun to get the mix & match sets where you could put outfits together the way you liked them.

These were a favorite for a generation.  Betsey McCall.  I've seen small boxes of these at estate sales over the years and it always brings back good memories for me.

Feel free to share these with a young girl and see if you can spark the imagination in a new generation.  I really like the weiner dog.

1962 Knitting Pattern ~ Infant Cardigan

Cardigans never go out of style.

And we have such wonderful variety in yarns compared to 1962.

I'd love to see some completed projects.

If you have an arts, crafts, or needlework blog.....feel free to share a link.  I think it's important that we share the old time skills with a new generation.  Handmade will always be better than mass production.

Enjoy the pattern!

1961 crochet pattern ~ baby bonnet

I would love to see some of these completed.

Please post a picture of your completed project!

As time permits, I am going to share many patterns and vintage arts/crafts.  These are timeless and never go out of style.

Here is a baby bonnet pattern from 1961.

I hope you enjoy making it!

1962 Fish Beach Bag ~ Crochet Pattern

I know a lot of designs retro designs might not appeal to the modern day crowd, but this one is timeless.  We are so lucky to have a much greater selection of yarns than they did in 1962.  I'm sure there will be some beautiful creations from this pattern.

Cute fish shaped beach bag will show off your crochet skills!

I enjoy sharing these vintage patterns and would love to see some finished projects.  Please post a picture of your bag when you get it done.  I'd love to see the color combinations y'all come up with.

Get those needles ready!

1961 Five Point Star Bedspread ~ Crochet Pattern

I am trying to get as many of these vintage patterns online so a new generation can enjoy making them.

It would make me SO HAPPY to see some of these patterns actually made, so please post pictures of these projects actually completed!  And if you sell your handmade creations online, feel free to post a link to your shop with your picture.

I am publishing these free of charge, but would be grateful for any amount donation to help offset the time it takes to get them scanned and published.  Even donations as small as 50 cents can help.  I still work full time and have kids in school, so this is a labor of love.  Keeping the art of needlework alive and these vintage patterns working to create heirlooms.

Thank you and look forward to seeing some pictures!

Julian Ira Fowler, WWII, USS Donaldson Autograph Book NAVY

Julian Ira Fowler

To honor my daddy and all those sailors that served with him aboard the USS Donaldson

My daddy was a gunnars mate aboard the USS Donaldson during WWII.

What I have learned through research and some kind relatives of shipmates is that this destroyer escort was spared as it encountered one of the worst typhoons in maritime history.  Halsey's Typhoon or better known as Typhoon Cobra.

I have scanned his autograph book in hopes that some of the sons, daughters, grandchildren, or other relatives might have pictures of their kinfolk when they served with daddy.  PLEASE post the pictures here.  If you have a link to sites or would share this on discussion boards so perhaps we can reach some of these people or their relatives.

I hope to hear from some sailors or their relatives.

This is the only picture that was in the album of shipmates. The one on the left had no name anywhere.  The one on the right is obviously Jasper and his cousin.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!

1913 Children's Story ~ Buckwheat Boy

I have seen references to the classic "Gingerbread Man" story in the late 1800s.  This 1913 reader presents children the same story, but calls the cookie "Buckwheat Boy".   In Europe during this era, it was probably more common for a child to hear "Buckwheat Biscuit" as opposed to 'gingerbread cookie' (although they are one in the same).

I have always enjoyed a classic story and this one, I hope, will continue to be shared - in one form or another - for generations to come.

I hope you enjoy!
